September 27, 2010 - 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Come out to play at Riverton Country Club or join us for dinner. In its 9th year, this tournament draws many in the South Jersey business community and includes both a live and silent auction. Seminars

Spring 2010 Psycho-Education Seminars May 18-June 29        

In association with Collaborative Support Programs of NJ and Morris County Mental Health Coalition, IFSS will be presenting seven seminars focusing on WELLNESS & RECOVERY. Participants will hear first hand accounts of recovery, learn about theoretical underpinnings of model, see examples of successful outcomes, given information about specific community resources, and learn skills that can be utilized immediately.

 

Cost: FREE

Who Should Attend: Anyone caring for an adult with a serious mental illness,
consumers of mental health services, mental health professionals, and anyone with a vested interest
 
Dates: Consecutive Tuesday’s starting May 18, 2010 through Tuesday, June 29, 2009

Times: 5:00pm to 5:30pm (Complimentary Refreshments Provided); 5:30pm to 8pm (Presentation)

SEMINAR TOPICS & DESCRIPTIONS
 
5/18/10, Hope for Wellness &Recovery: This session will review research and literature describing a wellness and recovery system of care for persons living with mental illness. Attendees will become aware of resources family members and persons living with mental illness can access, and ways families and consumers can collaborate. Attendees will be inspired that there is hope for recovery through first person accounts.
 
5/25/10, Wellness Together; It’s a Family Affair: Physical wellness can be a challenge for people in recovery and their families. Physical wellness activities can be used as a strategy to improve collaboration between family members and persons in recovery. This workshop will focus on the range of actions, which have been used successfully by self-help groups and centers and by family members and family groups, to improve physical health of entire families using practical strategies and existing services.

6/1/10, Creating Wellness Through Mindfulness: This session will introduce participants to the practice of mindfulness and the role of mindfulness in personal wellness. The presenter will share how mindfulness has been an instrumental tool in his personal wellness and recovery journey. The concept of mindfulness will be discussed and participants will be exposed to a variety of mindfulness meditations. Learn how mindfulness can bring about a stronger sense of self; feelings of gratitude; and can enhance a greater appreciation of life.

6/8/10, Impact of Money on Wellness: Poverty has a negative impact on recovery and well-being. Not having control of your finances can be distressing and disempowering. Helping someone to budget, save and develop assets can be an important tool for personal recovery. learn how you can support your loved one to maintain maximize control over budgeting, savings and asset development. Hear from people who have been successful. Learn empowering ways to help your family member save and gain assets that will improve their overall sense of wellness.

6/15/10, Winding Road of Wellness & Recovery: Valerie Fox, founder of the Morris County Mental Health Coalition will give a personal account of her journey toward Wellness and Recovery. Valerie will inspire hope by sharing details about how she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, the denial that followed, personal struggles, and finally accepting the diagnosis. She will also share how she was able to regain her health and fulfill many of her dreams. From her perspective she will share practical skills and techniques for family members.
 
6/22/10, Wrap for Family Members: WRAP is a self-management tool that helps a person to better manage symptoms, stressors and triggers in order to prevent crisis. Components of the WRAP will be reviewed. Participants will be able to identify daily maintenance plan and tools that can support wellness. Families can complete their own personal WRAP to promote personal wellness and minimize distress that may be related to supporting a family member. The benefits of creating a personal WRAP will be highlighted as well as strategies for using the WRAP successfully.
 
6/29/10, Wellness Planning: This session will review principles of wellness and health you can apply to foster personal growth for family members and consumers. Learn ways you can collaborative with your family members and supporters to achieve personal wellness goals. This wrap up session will highlight the topics reviewed throughout the series and will offer insights and resources family members can use to develop and sustain a wellness lifestyle
